ILG Name Germstar For Infection Control Upgrade Programme

Independent Living Group (ILG), a leading provider of residential care for adults with learning disabilities, has begun a major programme to upgrade hand sanitation facilities at its homes as part of its drive to combat infection threats next winter.

The Camberley-based company, which runs community-based residential care homes throughout the south east of England, says that with infection control a key priority for the group it wants the most effective hand sanitation facilities in place at all its facilities in readiness for the winter months when infections peak.

ILG has called in Salisbury-based Germstar UK to install its system of ‘smart’ touchless dispensers which are designed for constant operation in ‘heavy use’ environments like care homes. The hands-free system means the dispensers themselves remain free from contamination.

Users simply have to place a hand under the infrared, motion-activated dispenser to receive a measured amount of hospital-grade, non-gel rinse capable of killing 99.9 per cent of bacteria, viruses and fungus in seconds.

Germstar have currently installed over 180 virus-busting sanitiser and soap dispensers throughout 23 ILG premises.

ILG Business Services Manager Michelle Horrocks said: “It’s accepted that hand hygiene is the single most important factor in reducing the spread of infection, and no care home can afford to neglect to make the best hand sanitising facilities available.

“Comprehensive hand hygiene facilities are available in all our premises because we’ve always made infection control a priority. But there’s always something new and improved coming along and this state of the art touchless method eliminates even the dispenser as a potential source of cross infection.

“We’ve carefully evaluated the extra protection it brings and decided to install Germstar dispensers throughout our homes to emphasise our commitment to safeguarding the health of all our residents, staff and visitors.”
