Stangrove lodge hosts a Karaoke party as part of Abbeyfield Week

Choosemycare.com member Stangrove Lodge, part of The Abbeyfield Kent Society, celebrated Abbeyfield Week by inviting friends and family in to the home to enjoy a karaoke party.

The theme of Abbeyfield Week 2011 is generational skills swap, and Abbeyfield Kent are promoting interaction between generations by bringing people of different ages together to share skills and show how the gap between the old and young can be bridged.

Stangrove Lodge, a residential home in Edenbridge, got involved by celebrating the singing talent and skill of its residents. Residents from the home, along with invited guests, were all encouraged to choose songs to best represent their generation. A few residents got up to sing their chosen songs, and sometimes their guests would sing it for them.

Inevitably, a debate ensued as to which generation created the best music. Of course, no definitive answer was reached; but the song which created the biggest impact at the party was Madonna’s version of American Pie, which got Stangrove Lodge resident Raymond Palmer dancing with the home’s staff.

As well as bringing generations together, the most important goal of Abbeyfield Week was for people to have fun. All the residents at the home and visitors enjoyed the karaoke party and comparing the variety of songs from different generations.  Olive Allen, a resident at Stangrove Lodge commented: “It was a lovely evening and I particularly enjoyed choosing the songs to represent my generation. I was very interested to hear everyone else’s songs and found myself singing along to one or two.”

Peter Granstrom, Stangrove Lodge home manager commented: “We have quite a lovely crowd at Stangrove Lodge, so when I learnt of Abbeyfield Week 2011’s theme I thought the residents might enjoy a karaoke party. We recently held a cockney evening party which they all loved. I asked the residents what they thought and they were all very keen, and enthusiastically invited their friends and family along. The party was a great occasion, and I think all the residents enjoyed debating which era of music created the most memorable music.”
