Thursday 30th June 2011 saw the Grand Opening of the new Nursing Wing Extension and facilities at Valerie Manor Nursing and Residential Care Home by ‘the forces sweetheart’ Dame Vera Lynn.
Owner/manager Zoë Bates said “I feel so privileged to own Valerie Manor and extremely honoured to have had Dame Vera Lynn open the new wing for us. Dame Vera is such a lovely lady and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her and showing her around our home. She also kindly spent a long time sitting and talking with our residents and their families, including two WWII veterans who proudly wore their polished medals for the occasion.”
Over 130 guests enjoyed the proceedings which began in a light hearted manner with a poem from the Reverend John Challis of St Peter’s Church, a regular visitor to Valerie Manor. Reverend Challis also added “this place is such a happy community, a community that doesn’t survive but thrives; those who live here don’t just appear to be happy. I think they are happy. And that is a credit to Zoë and her team.”
Dame Vera officially opened the new wing with the cutting of a ribbon in the Conservatory, before proceeding on a guided tour with her daughter of the new wing and rooms as well as the original 17th Century Manor.
