Twenty day care centres to be closed in Southampton

SCA Group have announced that they will have to close twenty day care centres in Southampton after £400,000 of day care funding was withdrawn by Southampton City Council across the city as a result of government funding cuts. There will also be cutbacks in transport services.

SCA Group will keep four full time day centres open along with one community day care session. The four full time centres are Oak Lodge in Sholing, Brooks Centre in Midanbury,

Director of organisational development Lisa Dillane said: “We sincerely regret that this reorganisation has been necessary, because of the financial constraints that the City Council has been faced with.

“We are very aware of the importance of day care to many of our service users, their carers and families and have done all we can to minimise disruption to them, to staff and to the service as a whole.”

Southampton Age Concern chief executive Anne Carty said the centres were vital respite for carers and “improved the quality of life” for those who attend.
